Word by Word

I think of writing like a muscle: if you don’t exercise it, it will grow weak, but the more you work at it, the easier it gets.

Far too often I grow lazy, let my muscles rest too long, and then, when I try to workout again, I’m breathless, winded, within moments.

Five minutes a day, I tell myself, at the very least.

It’s easy to find five minutes. And then add five more and five more after that.

Word by word, line by line, breath by breath, growing stronger, ever stronger.

It’s like training for a marathon. One step at a time.
