daughter of Midas

I am gold

my hands,

my heart,

my soul,

gold

covering my eyes

so all I see is

shades of gold

I am sad

I am cold

              I am gold

even breath in my lungs

even thoughts in my mind

even blood in my veins

all is gold

this is the consequence

of a poorly thought out wish

               a girl turned into gold

frozen by the fever of greed

an all-consuming need

               golden daughter

               golden regret

               golden silence

               golden silhouette

if I could cry

they would be tears

               of gold
